Israeli Culture Series: Growing up as a Religious Gay Israeli

Posted

As a former religious gay man in Israel, Elihay Skital will share his journey to personal freedom. Starting with internal conflict all the way to conversion therapy. He will talk about the difficulties he faced including his struggle with God, himself, and with his close-knit family.

June is Pride Month, and Elihay Skital, our Israeli Shaliach (Emissary), will share his personal story. Elihay grew up in a religious family in the periphery of Israel. He will talk about the difficulty and the constant struggle to reconcile his own identity as a gay man with the expectations and norms of the community he grew up in. Elihay will share the journey of many young religious Israelis to acceptance and freedom. He will talk about the religious LGBTQ community and organizations in Israel that helped him and many others on their journey to personal freedom.
